Why Was I Born - Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane, from the album “Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane” (1962)
So beautiful. I wasn’t even aware of this duet.
I sling free-form bebop impulses into a Xuco skyline, sonic smoke signals that swirl in the air to become misguided mockingbird melodies in search of its muze(sic).
A little study break with a brief history of jazz by Langston Hughes, complete with some brilliant drawings. Love it.
I’m proud to say that I have a copy of this book!
In the summer of 2010, I was able to meet a very prolific and talented musician, Andy Statman.I highly encourage my friends to come see him perform tomorrow in El Paso!
The Andy Statman Trio, featuring Andy Statman on mandolin and clarinet, Jim Whitney on bass, and Larry Eagle on drums, is scheduled to perform May 8th at Congregation B’Nai Zion at 805 Cherry Hill Lane, El Paso, Texas at 7:00 PM. The performance is part of a national tour honoring Andy’s award of the 2012 National Heritage Fellowship, the nation’s highest honor in the traditional arts.
The trio will be performing excerpts from their new two-volume record, Old Brooklyn, as well as traditional Chassidic, klezmer, bluegrass and jazz classics.

Soweto Kinch - The New Emancipation - Hip-Hop & Jazz - Live Extracts @ Atlantique Jazz Festival (by MrDuNose)
Respect. Freestyling is such a tough thing to do; especially as he says, to “theme” it toward more positive things. I’m glad to have found about this guy today. Inspiring,

I have a new person to model performances after. I definitely dig the Sax and Spoken Word exchange.
